MBTA Iron Horse Park Operations Control Center, Billerica, Massachusetts

Overview:

  • The Iron Horse Park Operations Control Center was designed for fully redundant HVAC systems, uninterruptible power supplies and fully redundant emergency power systems with paralleling switchgear.
  • The HVAC systems were designed to maximize dispatcher comfort and provide maximum air quality without compromising energy efficiencies. Equipment was designed with large capacities due to the increased load demands based on anticipated heat and power demands from data equipment.
  • Estimated construction cost of $35,000,000 for the new building and parking lot.

The project consists of the construction of a new building and parking lot within Iron Horse Park in Billerica, MA. The new building will house dispatching operations for the MBTA north side commuter rail and Pan Am freight rail and will also house the backup PTC system.
