Boston Public Library – McKim Building; Johnson Building; Allston Branch, Boston, Massachusetts


Overview:

  • The McKim building was the winner of the Harleston Parker Medal for design excellence for the renovations and restoration.
  • The Allston branch featured 20,000 sq/ft of new construction.

McKim Building

RWS won the Harleston Parker Medal for design excellence for renovations and restoration of the McKim Building. The renovations included the addition of a fountain in the atrium.  Phase IIC involved additions and renovations to the library. This was a $18 million project.

Johnson Building

The project included an evaluation of the existing library and evaluating future program and planning issues.

Allston Branch

The project consisted of new construction of a new 20,000 sq/ft library. This was a $4.5 million project.
