Energy Modeling

As part of our integrated building design capabilities, R.W. Sullivan provides a wide array of energy modeling services at all phases of design.  Our HVAC and energy modeling staff evaluate buildings for compliance with the latest energy standards, such as ASHRAE 90.1-2004/2007 and the Performance Rating Method (PRM) in the LEED Green Building Rating System.

As the engineering systems of a building begin to develop, our engineers work closely with the entire design team to identify passive building features that may affect the building’s energy performance.  R.W. Sullivan strongly believes that integrating energy modeling into the early phases of design provides the design team with valuable information to advance the decision making process and deliver a cost-effective, energy efficient building to the owner.

Our energy models are generally performed using Trane’s Trace 700 computer program, a software tool for simulating heating and cooling loads, building energy usage, and calculating life cycle costs with payback estimates.  Other programs such as eQuest and EnergyPro are also used upon request.
