2009 Goals Met - Looking Forward To 2010!
2009 was a year of challenges for the entire Architectural and Engineering industry, fortunately, as it drew to a close, RWS was still 85 employees strong (23 HVAC, 21 Plumbing and Fire Protection, 19 Electrical, 10 Code, and 12 management, administration and support) with several new employees.
Although it was a challenging year for us all, R.W. Sullivan set out with an ambitious set of goals for 2009. Our major goals were to: Continue our philanthropic traditions; Preserve jobs in a tough economy; Complete our transition to Revit; Add key HVAC personnel; Plant the seeds of growth in new markets; Strengthen our marketing efforts; Enhance Project Management; and Incorporate Sustainable Design into our standard design process.
We are pleased to announce that we met or exceeded these goals!
Philanthropy
In 2009, despite the economy, R.W. Sullivan donated and raised tens of thousands of dollars to various charities and non-profit organizations. The following is a partial list: The Make-A-Wish Foundation, The Muscular Dystrophy Association, The ALS Association of Massachusetts, The Jimmy Fund, Boston Architectural College, The Alzheimer’s Association, Project Place, The Schwartz Center, The Pan Mass Challenge, The Boston Bruins Foundation, Heart Mind of Ghana, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Children’s Hospital Boston.
Preserve Jobs in a Tough Economy
We started 2009 with 97 employees and now have 85. While many firms went to a 4-day work week, we were able to stay at 40 hours for the entire year and retain the majority of our staff. As the market improves, we look forward to strengthening our team in 2010.
Revit
We are now fully Revit capable and have completed construction documents (CDs) on several projects using this Building Information Modeling software.
HVAC
In 2009, we added eight people to our HVAC department. This infusion of experience and talent, along with our fifteen proven engineers will allow our team to better serve our clients’ needs.
Growth
In 2009, we substantially increased the percentage of our work in the biopharmaceutical industry and are working to continue this trend in 2010.
