This session demonstrates the application
of the existing buildings chapter ("Repair, Alteration, Addition and
Change of Use of Existing Structures") to several hypothetical scenarios
within an existing building. Topics to be covered include:
- Requirements for the continuation of the same use group
- Changes in Hazard Index
- Compliance Alternatives
- Energy provisions for existing buildings
- Seismic and other structural requirements, and
- Historic buildings

| This session serves as an introduction
to the requirements of the Massachusetts Architectural Access Board
and the Americans with Disability Act. Scoping, existing buildings,
site requirements as well typical interior accessibility requirements
will be covered. |
| As of July 1, 2001 all new building
permit applications must demonstrate compliance with the requirements
of the new energy code (780 CMR 13, revised). This seminar will provide
an overview of the revised code with specific examples. |

to different fire protection systems. It will focus primarily
on sprinkler systems and the key provisions associated with design
including spacing, fire pumps, stand pipes etc. This session
will also touch upon other important fire protection systems including
fire alarms and smoke control. |
