Issue No. 11
Code Coordinating Council set to Meet:
Formed based on the recommendation of a Task Force set up by Governor
Celucci, and mandated in an Executive Order issued by Acting Governor
Swift, a “Code Coordinating Council” will meet for the first
time on November 13th to begin the process of preparing recommendations
that will eventually be forwarded to Governor-elect Mitt Romney in 2003.
The new committee is charged with reviewing existing construction codes
and making recommendations to “eliminate redundancy, minimize inconsistencies
and conflicts and maximize the efficiency of the code promulgation process”.
This task comes at a critical point as the State Fire Prevention Board
is preparing to adopt a new code based on NFPA and the State Building
Code Board is preparing to adopt a new code based on the IBC. The BSA
is spearheading an industry-wide effort to promote the goals of the Code
Coordinating Council and insure that its efforts are meaningful. Watch
for future updates here and in the BSA Chapterletter.
